Santa Tells Everyone About the Journey Home to Nazareth

Ho ho ho! Well, Mary and Joseph had fled all the way to Egypt to keep their little one safe from jealous King Herod. And in a strange land, far from home, they waited. And they waited. Doing the patient, quiet work of keeping their family together until it was finally safe to return.

And in time, my friends, that day came.

Old King Herod, with all his scheming and all his worry, eventually passed from the scene. And once he was gone, heaven sent Joseph another message — yes, in a dream once again, because by now you know that's how Joseph received his news. The angel said, "Get up, take the child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to harm the child are gone."

And just as faithfully as before, Joseph got up and did exactly as he was told. He gathered his family once more and made the long journey back home.

Now, they settled in a town called Nazareth — the very same town where this whole story began, way back when the angel first visited young Mary. And there, in that quiet, ordinary little town, the child would grow up. This is why, all through His life, He would be known as Jesus of Nazareth.

Isn't it interesting, my friends, how the story comes full circle? It started in Nazareth, traveled all the way to Bethlehem, fled to Egypt, and then returned home to Nazareth again. Round and round, through danger and difficulty, and at last, home. There's something comforting in that, isn't there? After all the long roads and frightening nights, this little family finally found their quiet, ordinary, peaceful place to be.

And do you know what happened in Nazareth? Mostly ordinary, everyday life. The child grew. Joseph worked at his carpentry, and in time taught the boy the trade — measuring and sawing and building, side by side. There were chores and meals and neighbors and ordinary days, one after another. The great drama of stars and angels and fleeing kings gave way to the gentle rhythm of family life.

And I think there's something beautiful in that, my friends. We tend to remember the big, dramatic moments — the angel, the star, the manger, the gifts. But so much of this story, and so much of every life, is made up of ordinary days. Quiet work. Family meals. Growing up slowly in a small town with the people who love you. The grand moments matter, of course they do. But so do all the ordinary ones in between.

The most extraordinary child in all of history grew up in the most ordinary of places, doing ordinary things, in a loving family. And there's a lovely sort of comfort in knowing that.

So as our story settles down in peaceful Nazareth, remember that home, and family, and ordinary days well-lived are treasures all their own. Don't wish them away. They're the very stuff that good lives are made of.

Merry Christmas, everyone! Ho ho ho! https://santaclaus.top/the-journey-home-to-nazareth/
